DETAILS: This bookshelf is designed by India Foster and built from reclaimed mahogany. The frame is made using solid wood pieces with mortise and tenon joinery. This traditional technique is extremely durable and uses no metal hardware, only time honored woodworking skills. The bookshelf is made in Miami by a master craftsman. Mahogany is a tropical hardwood species prized for its open grain and beautiful sheen. It is endangered in the wild, so the highly prized wood is sourced locally from (sub)urban trees or wild trees that fell naturally during a storm. The timber is milled locally in South Florida and cured for several years before it is ready for use.
